Frequently asked questions

Why do I need mortgage advice?

Getting a mortgage is likely to be one of the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make, and it's important you make a choice that suits your circumstances. A mortgage adviser can search the market on your behalf and recommend the right deal for you.

How do I apply for a mortgage?

The process involves providing lots of information to lenders (and filling out a whole lot of forms). Being well prepared is key and can make the process move smoothly. For more guidance, check out our comprehensive guide.

How do I get a mortgage if I'm self-employed?

Being self-employed doesn't mean you can't get a mortgage. Ensuring your books are all up-to-date and keeping a clear record of your finances can help strengthen your position as a borrower. In this case, we'd recommend speaking with a mortgage adviser to find out what you need to do.

What is remortgaging?

Remortgaging is the process of taking out a new loan to cover your previous mortgage. Remortgaging can come with plenty of benefits, from releasing equity in your home to the potential to save money on your monthly repayments. Check out our remortgaging guide for more information.

What is protection?

Protection secures your family and home against the worst-case scenario. It's also important to note that your needs are likely to change throughout your life. Perhaps you're moving jobs, starting a family, or even downsizing. These are all things you need to consider when looking at protection.

Do I need to have a Will in place to get a mortgage?

No, having a Will in place is not a requirement for getting approved for a mortgage.

However, having a Will is generally recommended for everyone regardless of their mortgage situation. It ensures your wishes for your estate are carried out after you pass away, which can avoid complications for your loved ones during an already difficult time.

From the first call Vickie was amazing. Very reassuring and clearly knew her stuff. I have some old business debt and thought I would never be able to get a mortgage because of it after failing previously with a different broker. But Vickie came back with 3 offers within 24hrs! From there I was kept updated through the whole process up until the final offer was received. Any questions I had were answered promptly. I honestly can't recommend Vickie highly enough. So impressed and grateful for her help. 😊

Could not recommend the Mortgage Advice Bureau more, such a great service. The initial processing handled by Charlie Marsden was brilliant, thorough and professional and I needed some additional support after a few unexpected processes which were picked up instantly and couldn't have been supported better. The service provided by Sonia Stanco was just as high and I really appreciate the level of contact and the liasing between all parties that she provided on my behalf. It really has made this process as easy and simplified as possible and has been really appreciated. Have already recommended the service to friends and family, thanks very much!

I can't recommend Charlie Marsden enough for mortgage advice! From the very start, he took the time to guide me through the process, offering expert advice on how to get on the property ladder and helping me overcome any barriers along the way. He was incredibly patient, explained everything clearly, and made what can be a stressful process feel seamless. Best of all, I never had to wait—he handled everything as quickly as possible. If you're looking for a mortgage advisor who genuinely cares and goes the extra mile, I would 100% recommend Charlie!
