Frequently asked questions

Why do I need mortgage advice?

Getting a mortgage is likely to be one of the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make, and it's important you make a choice that suits your circumstances. A mortgage adviser can search the market on your behalf and recommend the right deal for you.

How do I apply for a mortgage?

The process involves providing lots of information to lenders (and filling out a whole lot of forms). Being well prepared is key and can make the process move smoothly. For more guidance, check out our comprehensive guide.

How do I get a mortgage if I'm self-employed?

Being self-employed doesn't mean you can't get a mortgage. Ensuring your books are all up-to-date and keeping a clear record of your finances can help strengthen your position as a borrower. In this case, we'd recommend speaking with a mortgage adviser to find out what you need to do.

What is remortgaging?

Remortgaging is the process of taking out a new loan to cover your previous mortgage. Remortgaging can come with plenty of benefits, from releasing equity in your home to the potential to save money on your monthly repayments. Check out our remortgaging guide for more information.

What is protection?

Protection secures your family and home against the worst-case scenario. It's also important to note that your needs are likely to change throughout your life. Perhaps you're moving jobs, starting a family, or even downsizing. These are all things you need to consider when looking at protection.

Do I need to have a Will in place to get a mortgage?

No, having a Will in place is not a requirement for getting approved for a mortgage.

However, having a Will is generally recommended for everyone regardless of their mortgage situation. It ensures your wishes for your estate are carried out after you pass away, which can avoid complications for your loved ones during an already difficult time.

I approached the MAB after having a very disappointing experience with another popular online mortgage broker. We have a complex set of circumstances where a large chunk of our earnings come from benefits. The other broker gave us a maximum mortgage of £110,000 and we were really crestfallen that our move wouldn't happen. I took a chance on MAB and emailed them a brief description of my circumstances so that whoever I spoke to knew a bit about us already, so there wouldn't be any surprises. I was booked in very quickly with the fantastic Josh Hayselden who very quickly reassured me that our circumstances were manageable and that there are lenders who would provide us with a mortgage. Josh gave me some figures that were significantly higher than what I was provided before and I left the phone call feeling sooooo much better about everything. Josh remained in contact continuously and even emailed the day after to say a lender had been in the office and they had discussed our circumstances and that they didn't think it would be an issue. Even when there was a small hiccup between what I expected the mortgage to cost and the actual figure, Josh was able to go back and find an even better deal the very next day. Josh was also very flexible with his hours and we even had phone calls at 7:30PM in the evening. The MAB also allow you to contact them direct on WhatsApp or via email. We also had a case manager, Joanne McGregor who kept on top of things and made sure everything continued to go smoothly. A final shout out to Kieron Ferris who was able to sort out our life insurance and explain options that I didn't even know existed. The last time I used a broker for life insurance we got a really bad deal so I was a bit reluctant but he was excellent, kind and we had a good chat and I ended up with what I think, for the value of the mortgage and our circumstances is a good deal. Don't be put off by the fact that the initial part of this process is free. This doesn't mean they aren't good. Their cost, for what they provide is really reasonable. They are excellent and they should feel proud that they have helped our two children, who have significant disabilities and challenges find a forever home that better suits their needs.

As a first-time homebuyer, I was nervous and unsure about what to expect throughout the mortgage process—but working with Geeta completely changed that. From our very first conversation, she made me feel supported, informed, and confident in every decision I was making. Geeta took the time to break everything down in simple terms, patiently answering all of my questions and making sure I truly understood each step. She was incredibly organised, responsive, and proactive in securing the best possible rate and mortgage product for my needs. What really stood out to me was how much she genuinely cared. This wasn’t just a transaction—Geeta was invested in helping me succeed, and her calm, knowledgeable presence made all the difference. She made what could have been a stressful experience feel smooth and even enjoyable. I’m beyond grateful for her guidance and expertise. If you're a first-time buyer feeling overwhelmed, trust me—Geeta is the person you want by your side. I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Great experience getting my mortgage through MAB. My allocated mortgage advisor is Jonathan Dytiche and my case manager Andy Guest. Both were fantastic and so helpful. Jonathan took a lot of time talking me through different options and finding the best mortgage for my needs. He also provided a lot of advice around buying a house which I really appreciated. Andy was great too, very helpful with providing updates and chasing the bank and solicitor. Glad I decided to get my mortgage through MAB as it took a lot of stress and worry off me.
